Calling All Middle Grade and Young Adult Writers!

You’re invited to join us for a day filled with editor and agent keynotes, age group-focused breakout sessions, one-to-one manuscript critiques with our faculty, and a chance to connect with other writers at the Stone School’s brand-new facility at Urban Place, Lancaster!

Registration is only $40 for SCBWI members and students/staff of the Stone School,

 or $55 for non-SCBWI members.

Whether your writing is goofy, heavy, magical, serious, contemporary, hilarious, or even peppered with comic strips, this day is for you!

Tentative Schedule:

10 a.m. Registration Opens

10:30 a.m. Keynote, Editor Rick Chillot: TWENTY TIPS FOR A PERFECT PITCH: How to make your book irresistible to irritable editors

11:30-11:45 Break

11:45 Keynote, Agent Zoe Sandler: Where business meets craft—the art of querying, pitching, submitting, and selling.

12:30-1:30 Lunch (attendees may pack a lunch or purchase lunch from one of many nearby restaurants)

1:30 Breakout sessions:

-YA Writers with Abbey Lee Nash: Tackling Tough Topics in YA Books

-MG Writers with Jennie K. Brown: A Recipe for Middle Grade. (After giving a brief overview of her journey to      publication, she’ll share ingredients (tips) for writing to a middle-grade audience. Participants will get their creative juices flowing with some writing exercises along the way!)


-Optional: PEER QUERY CRITIQUES (Bring 5 copies of your query/pitch to the event to swap with peers and help each other apply the tips Rick and Zoe will be giving during their keynotes!)

-Q&A, Book Sales, Door Prizes

(Manuscript critiques will be scheduled throughout the day)

MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUES: (at additional cost of $45) Register and add in this option. Email up to 10 pages of one manuscript, plus a one-page synopsis to using Subject Line: “MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE YA/MG DAY”

Send up to 10 pages of your manuscript, plus a one-page synopsis. (Include synopsis in the same document; please don’t send two documents.)

Please follow standard formatting guidelines, double-spaced, 12 point font. Manuscripts must be received by October 5, 2018.

No submissions  or revisions will be accepted after this deadline.

You will receive an email confirmation of receipt of your manuscript.

If you do not receive confirmation by email, please let us know as we may not have received your submission.

Submit your payment of $45/critique with your conference registration.

IMPORTANT: Critiques overlap with workshops, as such you may miss part of a workshop during your critique.

Cancellation Policy: A cancellation fee of $10 will be deducted from refunds. No cancellations after November 2nd, 2018.
