Invites You to Attend the

Field Trip to Princeton, NJ

Friday, March 13, 2020  EVENT POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Eastern PA’s first field trip of 2020 is Friday, March 13th. Our group will be making three stops: the Cotsen Children’s Library of Princeton University, The Princeton Public Library, and jaZams book and toy store.

The Cotsen Children’s Library CCL is a unit within the Department of Special Collections at the Princeton University Library. The Cotsen research collection includes illustrated children’s books, manuscripts, original artwork, prints, and educational toys from the 15th century to the present. The curatorial division hosts academic programs on aspects of the history of children’s books. The CCL also serves as a resource for children, families, librarians and educators. Visitors can explore Bookscape, a picturesque environment with whimsical spaces to read. Cotsen also offers a variety of free programs and events for children, an author interview webcast, and a creative blog.

At the CCL, Curator Andrea Immel and Education & Outreach Coordinator Dana Sheridan will present to our group. We will then observe a group storytime and see the exhibits on display. Attendees will then have time to get lunch in Princeton before we meet at our next stop–the Princeton Public Library.

At the Princeton Public Library, Susan Conlon, Head of Youth Services, will greet us and talk about the history, selection process, mission, logistics and marketing of the Princeton Children’s Book Festival

The Princeton Children’s Book Festival is a free annual event held each September in front of the Princeton Public Library at the Albert E. Hinds Memorial Plaza. The festival offers children and children’s-book-loving adults the opportunity to meet their favorite authors and illustrators, listen to them discuss their work, and have a book autographed. The community loves the Princeton Children’s Book Festival and the festival continues to grow each year.

The mission of the Princeton Children’s Book Festival is to encourage reading and ignite a life-long love of books. The library strives to bring a diverse and inclusive range of voices to the festival and to strengthen the connection for children between the stories on the page and the people who create them.

Books for the festival are provided by jaZams, a unique children’s book and toy store with two locations–one in Palmer’s Square, Princeton, NJ and the other in Peddler’s Village in Bucks County, PA. At jaZams we’ll journey back to childhood as we explore the store shelves in search of the special toy that ignites our imagination and inspires a new story!

I hope you’ll join us on March 13th! Registration is required. If, after carefully reading this event page you still have questions, please email EPA Field Trip Coordinator Virginia Manning at SCBWIepaFieldTripCoordinator@gmail.com
