Here is your opportunity to get feedback on an assignment from Patrick Collins, Creative Director, Macmillan Children’s Books. If you’d like to participate, you’ll need to register for the event and the Art Director Assignment. I hope you will but, even if you don’t, you’ll learn from seeing how other illustrators tackled the assignment and hearing the feedback they receive.
What to do now:
Once you register, each participant will receive an email from me with three manuscripts attached. Select one of these manuscripts and create a final piece of art from a scene/page from the book. Picture book final illustrations will be in color, chapter book final illustrations in black and white. Please consider the following things as you create your piece: characters, setting, action, details, and storytelling.
Submit assignment online by September 5th:
Please upload a digital file of your illustration saved as a medium resolution JPG (no larger than 3 MG) by September 5, 2019. Virginia Law Manning will provide the Dropbox address to everyone who registers for the assignment by September 1st. Please use the format “yourname.jpg” when saving your file.
Bring a good quality, color reproduction of your illustration (no larger than 11″ x 17″) to the meeting on September 14th:
Creative Director Patrick Collins will critique the assignments at the conference. We will project the jpg onto a large screen AND provide the printed illustrations for Patrick to peruse as he critiques.
If, after carefully reading these instructions, you still have questions, please contact Virginia Law Manning, EPA Illustrator Coordinator, at email@example.com.
